MCAI Member and Student Chapter Shine at 2018 MCAA Convention

The 2018 MCAA Convention recently concluded in San Antonio, Texas and it was a standout week for the state of Iowa. At the Awards of Excellence Breakfast, the following national awards were handed out by the MCAA:

CNA/MCAA Safety Excellence Award

Size Category 4 (400,001–1,000,000 work hours)

Winger Contracting Company

The CNA/MCAA Safety Excellence Award recognizes one contractor each year in five difference category sizes. This award is based on the success of the company’s safety program and their innovative safety initiatives. Watch Tom and Brian Keck, accept this prestigious award.

MCAA Educator of the Year

Brad Perkins — Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering, Iowa State University

This year's MCAA Educator of the Year award went to Brad Perkins of Iowa State University. The award, which included a check for $5,000, honored his mentoring ability, industry knowledge and involvement, as well as his active participation in MCAA's Student Chapter program activities. Unfortunately, Brad was unable to attend this year’s convention but click Here to Watch ISU students accept the award on his behalf.

MCAA Student Chapter of the Year

Iowa State University

This annual award recognizes a student chapter for how well they promote the mechanical contracting industry and the career opportunities offered by MCAA members. The ISU MCAA student chapter, which is sponsored by MCAI, will receive $3,000 from the MCAA in addition to their award recognition. Watch the ISU students accept this award.

MCAA Student Chapter Competition

Top 10 Merit Award Winner — Iowa State University (8th place)

This year’s MCAA Student Chapter Competition project involved the renovation of the mechanical systems of a Brazilian restaurant in mid-town New York City — Fogo de Chao. ISU placed 8th in the competition, which is their highest placement since they finished 5th in 2008. The MCAA Student Chapter at ISU will receive $1,000 from the MCAA for this accomplishment.
